• A little piece of mind concerning software maintenance.

So you want a real shot at happiness, my friend? If so, here’s a little secret that will get you on the right path: learn to accept things, good and bad. Revel in whatever brings you pleasure, but try not to rebel against whatever it is you dislike. Why? Simply because that really doesn’t help bring about satisfaction… much the other way around.

Okay, before you start thinking I’m going on one of those philosophical rants, I’ll get you a clear-cut example to illustrate my reasoning. Computer software. That’s something we all can relate with, right? And if you’re browsing this specific blog, there’s a good chance you’re the technical type, and you work with all kinds of software on a daily basis, same as myself. Now, as much as I enjoy using computer software, I very much dislike the process on installing software, and in more than one occasion I’ve gone berserk in the process of doing computer maintenance.

Oh, how I crave for simpler and friendlier installation wizards that don’t command you to take them through step-by-step, hand in hand. You may think I’m going overboard here, but just so you know… well, part of my job functions revolve around installing software such as Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise in hunreds (if not thousands) of computers all at once. And usually that really isn’t the piece of pie it may sound at first impression. And least it wasn’t, not until I found out this little gem. Curious? Clicky forwardy and find out!

  • And after all… you’re my touchwall!

Eyes peeled, dear reader! What you’re about to see is nothing short of a preview from a future that’s just around the corner. This impressive touch-wall was available last year in Cannes festival, and let me say it was a wonderful touch! This kind of application will probably start getting brought to all kinds of events, since it brilliantly bridges the gap between information, interaction and connectivity. But don’t just stand there following my rant, you’ll do much better to watch the video demonstration:

  • Did you know? How technology is changing our world!

Sometimes it’s good to take a break and think about life; in my opinion, that’s a good way of getting perspective. For example, have you ever paused to consider that just barely 10 years ago, there was almost no signs of Internet anywhere? In just a decade the Internet has absolutely pervaded our lives (which is generally a good thing), so I cannot help but wondering… how will everything be in another decade? Will things keep changing so drastically, or will a resting point be reached eventually? Well, according to the following video presentation, it looks as though the real change is yet to come!

  • Twitter running on a Commodore 64!

Ok, so this isn’t really one of the most practical ideas I’ve seen in a long while, but it’s certainly one of the most ingenious. I would never believe such thing is even possible, if I hadn’t watched this video. Some of the younger kids will barely realize the implications of such feat, but for anyone who has used a Commodore 64… to think it can be used with twitter; wow, that’s really something else!

  • Better than a Private eye: CCTV Security Cameras.

I must admit, I’m a very curious person. Sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes not quite so… it depends on your sense of ethics, I suppose. For example, I don’t enjoy the idea of spying on other people, but I do enjoy the idea of watching other people without them knowing? Sounds contradictory? Yeah, I figured as much.

Lately, I’ve been getting intrigued about those cool CCTV Security cameras, and I think those things can provide great usefulness as a security device, so I’m thinking about getting one such system for my home. However while browsing the website that sells security cameras, I also noticed this smaller and more elusive Spy Camera and now I’m thinking what if… I mean the applications for one of these things are limited only by imagination, right?

It’s amazing the kind of surveillance devices that are freely available in certain stores, nowadays! And I’m not just talking about video surveillance. For example, I also notices these Telephone recorders which can be used to monitor telephonic conversations! How about that? When I was growing up, this was the kind of thing that was most common in spy movies, and now it’s extremely common. I’m still not sure that’s a good thing, but all the while I see nothing wrong with having some fun… as long as no one winds up hurt or offended, right?
