• Twitter follow tool, all about my newest found passion.

It’s funny how people change their mind so fast, sometimes. Just a year ago I was completely opposed to the website twitter, and I felt it was a lame fad that would go by in no-time… and it wouldn’t be too soon. To think that I would say something like that such a short while ago, and now here I am, one of the biggest twitter geeks this side of the solar systems. There’s really something magical about the 140-character limit, and even though I can’t really put my finger on what it is, I should say I’m completely absorbed in the world of micro-blogging.

With that said, you may be interested to know about some cool twitter apps, in case you’re also a fellow twitterer. If that’s so, consider checking out this interesting set of twitter apps, which includes a twitter follow tool. That’s right, and if you don’t know what a twitter follow tool is, well… suffice to say it will be one the most powerful tools in your arsenal, if you enjoy the prospect of reaching vast audiences and express your world-views to like-minded and not-so-like-minded individuals. So there you go, have fun twittering, and feel free to look me up if you want to be friends with a power user! Now let’s go ahead and have some fun, shall we?

  • My computer is running slow!! Now what?

Lol, it’s amazing how much we take for granted. Being the technical type (I’ve always enjoyed using computers ever since I was a teenager), I’m quite familiar with the ins and outs of computer hardware and software. I know how to repair my computer, and I certainly know how to keep it snappier… and when it gets to that, I have no problem whatsoever backing up my data and formatting my hard drive in a jiffy. In fact, I’m so used to doing that kind of thing, that sometimes I don’t remember that doing such a thing can be a terrible and elusive process, to novice users. Fortunately, there are always alternatives novice users can use when their computer is running slow.

Well, to make a long story short… I was just talking with a friend of mine on skype, and we was truly going berserk over how sluggish his computer was, despite of the fact it was only two years old. He was worried he might have to buy a new computer already, but then I just told him that his computer will go back to normal if he reinstalled the operating system, which was merely cluttered up after two years. Needless to day, he had no idea how to do such a thing, and he just kept repeating “my computer is running slow” over and over, like some sort of madman!

I was literally laughing out loud watching this little drama, until I realized how elusive the whole concept of formatting a hard drive might seem to a novice user. Fortunately, another simple answer occurred to me: a registry cleaner! That might just do the trick. So I told him to download the trial version of Registry Easy, and less than half an hour later he was video-calling on Skype. He almost tears in eyes and he just kept saying “thankyou, thankyou… you really saved me from growing a premature ulcer”. Well, what do you know? I feel good about having helped him, so I figured I might as well write this post to inspire people having similar problems. If your computer is running slow, just try this software!

  • PDF search engines and the endless possibilities of the Internet.

Yowza! I really never stop being impressed with the evolution of the Internet. What if I told you, dear reader, that it’s now possible to search pdf documents and preview them right off your browser? Sounds really sweet, does it not? Well, that’s just what can be done through the new age pdf search engine… kind of a funky name if you ask me, but the tool itself (which is what really matters) sure seems to work like a charm. If you have habit of looking for portable document files on the good old cyberspace, I’m pretty sure this will make your life easier.

At times like these, I cannot help but thinking…. this Internet thing has gone a really long and unpredictable and wonderful way, in the past decade or so. Sometimes I try to imagine what it will be like in another ten years, but that’s just outright scary. Kind of like trying to predict the future. Hm, now that I think of it… I could look up a pdf on foretelling the future. Or maybe another one on predicting the evolution of the Internet. Or maybe both? I mean, just because I can! I really enjoy life in the XXI century, have I told you that?

  • International shipping and a bit of sweet family annoyance.

Don’t you really love it when all your close family somehow seems to regard you as the offical tech wizard in the clan? And yes, I’m being sarcastic here. Because when I say “tech wizard” I really mean “he who handles all the computer-related chores no one really knows how to do or cares to learn how it’s done”. Yes, I figured you may just be able to relate with the whole concept here. You know how it goes… at first they just call you up occasionally for a brief question on how to attach files to an e-mail, and next thing you know, you’re officially in charge of the entire family’s lines of communication.

Anyway… Figuring out the best way to send an antique table to my aunt who lives in Europe: such was my fated headache for today. And for a while there, I almost thought it was going to be a real problem, until I came across this rather decent-looking website specialized in International Shipping. Being quite the informed online shopper I pride myself to be, I wasted no time to look up some reviews to figure out what people think of this website. Judging from what I’ve read so far, it turns out to be a rather decent service with some really competitive prices.

Do you see where I’m going with this? Well, for once, maybe you can relate with my premise and the reference will prove occasionally when you happen to be faced with a similar ordeal. For second… well, I guess I really felt like venting. I’m all for helping my fellow man, and remarkably my fellow family member, but come on… sometimes I cannot help but feel they’re taking advantage of me. Oh well, I still love them so I just put up with it. But one of these days I’ll start teaching them how it’s done, rather than doing it for them. One of these days, I tell you!

  • Pearl of advice for the aspiring webmaster.

I may have told you this before, but I will tell you again since I’m confident it’s all around good advice… especially for people who are just getting started as websmasters. Do not build your castles on sand. Which goes to say, make sure you have a good hosting service. You see, a website is not unlike a building – you’ll spend dozens, if not hundreds of hours getting everything done and realizing your vision. Do you know what happens if you build something over sand? It easily crumbles. Do you know what happens if you build a website over a cheap host (or even one of those free hosts)? You got it right, it will probably crumble as well.

Choosing the right hosting service is perhaps one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a novice webmaster. As such, it’s not a decision that should be taken lightly… otherwise all your hard work may be for nothing! And you don’t want that, do you? I hope not. With that in mind, make sure to check out this web hosting review website, whether you’re looking for ecommerce hosting, e-mail hosting or any other kind of hosting. Never settle with a host before making some research… otherwise you may end up regretting it!

  • How to use LED lights to achieve that futuristic home visuals.

I don’t know if you’re up to speed on the latest technological developments – as far as LEDs go, but let me tell you dear reader… nowadays a lot of cool stuff is possible by taking advantage of the potential offered by LED lights. Since they are relatively inexpensive, highly customizable and colorful, and spend little energy, LEDS are food for anything you can imagine decoration-wise, from Christmas lights to full-fledged led signs. In fact, you can even use LEDs as pixels and use them to make a gigantic screen. Of course, getting millions of leds will be very expensive, but it’s all a matter of finding a good balance between investment and purpose.

A friend of mine is using LEDs in his home remodeling, and I should say I’m very impressed with the result. He set up 6 dotted lines along the bottom of the walls, and he hooked it all up to his main computer. He can now easily configure and control not only the brightness and color of each LED, but besides that he can even program the system to produce some amazing visual patterns. I have a feeling this kind of decoration will indeed become more popular in years to come!
